The police raid on Halk TV and the appointment of a trustee to the channel have sparked debate in politics. Following the development, CHP's Yıldırım Kaya reacted to the appointment of trustees to institutions, stating that the decision does not align with democratic principles.
Speaking to OdaTV, Kaya said that the trustee practice is not limited to municipalities but also targets television channels. Kaya stated, “Locking the doors of an institution and appointing a trustee is not a correct approach. Appointing trustees to municipalities, appointing trustees to television channels... There is no such thing as democracy.”
Kaya expressed that if there is a legal process being conducted against Halk TV owner Cafer Mahiroğlu, it should be directed at the individual concerned. Opposing the punishment of the institution as a whole, Kaya used the words, “The person being sought is abroad, the owner; let them find the owner, let them do whatever they are going to do to the owner. Locking the door of the institution is not the way.”
Following the decision, eyes turned to Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who had criticized Halk TV five days earlier. In a broadcast he attended on KRT TV on October 9, Kılıçdaroğlu questioned why Mahiroğlu did not come to Turkey, accused Halk TV of “broadcasting fake news 24 hours a day,” and stated that they had filed a complaint against the channel with RTÜK.

Yıldırım Kaya gave a sharp response to the criticisms made over Kılıçdaroğlu's words. Kaya stated, “May a stone fall on their heads as heavy as Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. They have never given space to any of our statements to this day, but despite this, we do not find the silencing of the press to be correct.”
