CHP's Yavuzyılmaz reacts to 'planes cannot land on the 3rd runway at Esenboğa': It has been turned into a debris dumping site

Yavuzyılmaz alleged that passenger planes can almost never land on the 3rd runway at Esenboğa Airport, which was opened on January 19.

Yavuzyılmaz argued that the debris dumped in the runway area is affecting the signal fields of the ILS and VOR systems, and called on Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu to have the debris removed.

CHP's Yavuzyılmaz stated the following:

"We have determined that because the 1 million cubic meters of debris illegally dumped in the 3rd runway area disrupts the signaling between the ground and the air, passenger planes cannot land on the 3rd runway from the southwest direction at all, and only 1-2 planes have been able to land from the northeast direction.

Due to this debris disgrace at Esenboğa Airport, where an average of 150 planes land daily, 99 percent of the planes are forced to land on the 1st and 2nd runways. Only 1 percent of planes can land on the 3rd runway. This is because the amount and height of the debris spread over the signal generation area of the ILS systems and the VOR device on the 3rd runway are at a terrifying level.

The situation is a disgrace. Because the Glide Path device in the ILS system cannot receive a signal, planes cannot capture the 3-degree glide slope during landing. Because the Localizer device in the ILS system cannot receive a signal, planes cannot center the runway. Because the VOR device signals are oscillating, the navigation signals of the planes are practically cut off. We have reached the official documents of the General Directorate of State Airports Authority, which serve as proof of the scandal.

According to these documents, it is stated that debris should not be spread within a 600-meter radius of the VOR device, that the sensitive and critical areas belonging to the ILS systems must be protected as they are, and that these areas must never be violated. Despite this, it is determined that debris has been dumped in these areas. It is requested that the dumped debris be removed. It is requested that the VOR device be brought to a state where it can pass flight inspection. However, it is stated that no activity has been initiated regarding the removal of the debris. And it warns again; it says the debris spread on the signal generation area of the 3rd runway's ILS systems and VOR device must be removed.

The result; without any shame or hesitation, 1 million cubic meters of debris is still sitting in the 3rd runway area. Because the signals of the ILS and VOR devices are blocked by hills of debris, planes can almost never land on the new runway. While no planes coming from the Pursaklar direction can land on the 3rd runway, only a few planes coming from the Çubuk direction can land. And that is only if there is no rain, snow, fog, or clouds; if the weather is clear, almost like a glider flight... For these systems, which are vital for airline safety, to function and for the runway to be made suitable for landings, the debris must be removed immediately and transported to the nearest municipal dumping site.

I am addressing Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdülkadir Uraloğlu. Please, explain this to President Tayyip Erdoğan; because you have practically turned the runway he opened 6 months ago into a debris dumping site, passenger planes cannot land on the 3rd runway properly. Let him know that the planes coming for the NATO summit will not be able to land on the 3rd runway, so he is not caught off guard."
