CHP Spokesperson Sarı: No legal obstacles remain for the CHP congress

The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting was held under the chairmanship of CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı made statements regarding the MYK agenda.

"We have issued instructions to our own municipalities and local administrators"

Stating that there are deficiencies and problems in schools in the new academic year, Sarı said, "We evaluate that there are 2 issues that must be resolved urgently. One of these is the cleanliness and hygiene of schools. In other words, a public authority that cannot clean its schools, cannot provide toilet paper to its schools, and cannot provide soap to its schools in the twenty-first century is out of the question. The 2nd important issue is that we believe that school-age children going to school must absolutely be provided with one meal of quality food, especially due to the rapid deterioration of income distribution in Turkey. These 2 issues are matters we are following very closely, and we have issued an instruction to our own municipalities and our own local administrators regarding this matter."

"We have withdrawn our appeal to the Court of Cassation so that the decision can be finalized as soon as possible"

Stating that internal party issues as well as the country's agenda were on the MYK agenda, Sarı said regarding the withdrawal of the appeal, "What we want to do here is very clear and precise. In order to ensure that the CHP can hold its conventions and congress in an open, clear, and transparent manner, away from all kinds of legal debates, legal disputes, or suspicions, we have withdrawn the appeal we filed with the Court of Cassation so that this decision can be finalized as soon as possible. This is the purpose here. Therefore, there is no need to produce speculation around this. There were other plaintiffs here besides us. These plaintiffs also withdrew their lawsuits. Therefore, there are no obstacles left before us to hold the congress and to carry out the conventions in a smooth manner and in accordance with the law. Therefore, assessments that there will still be a Court of Cassation audit are not correct."

Regarding why the appeal was not withdrawn earlier, Sarı said, "Our withdrawal of the lawsuit does not eliminate the appeal process because there were 4 other plaintiffs. We carried this out after these plaintiffs withdrew their lawsuits. This is the first point. Secondly, we had not withdrawn our decision out of respect for Özgür Özel's will at that time, in that psychological environment, even though we thought he was unauthorized to make this application on behalf of the CHP, despite having no authority left after the nullity decision. However, we all know the subsequent political developments. When a political divergence, stepping outside the corporate identity of the Republican People's Party, discussing this, and unnecessary legal pressures and related debates emerged within the subsequent political developments, we clearly saw that this process could no longer be carried in this way. Following that, a judicial recess period began. Since it was not possible for us to carry this out during the judicial recess and the other 4 plaintiffs also withdrew their appeals, it became mandatory for the Republican People's Party to end this process and to eliminate such debates over the congress on the Republican People's Party, and as a result of this necessity, we have withdrawn our lawsuit for the decision to be finalized. No legal obstacles remain for the CHP's conventions and congress after this stage," he said.

"No CHP executive is in any contact with the Yenilik Party"

Responding to questions from members of the press, Sarı gave the following answer regarding the allegations that they were in talks with the Yenilik Party:

"We are following these allegations with astonishment. Now, we respect all the information obtained by members of the press from the lobbies and the assessments related to them. However, we would like to submit to the public's discretion these news reports that have not been verified, have no consistency whatsoever, and were written without talking to anyone. No executive of the Republican People's Party is in any meeting, discussion, or any contact with the Yenilik Party, either formally or informally."
