CHP statement on 2 soldiers martyred in İskenderun! 'Whoever caused the deaths of our children...'
CHP İzmir MP Murat Bakan, commenting on the tragic incident in which 2 soldiers were martyred in İskenderun, said: "Whoever caused the deaths of our children; whoever turned a blind eye to this negligence; from the commanding officer to the medical personnel, everyone responsible for oversight must be prosecuted, must receive the harshest punishment, and must be immediately dismissed from the army."
In İskenderun, 2 of the 7 soldiers hospitalised with suspected poisoning and high fever have been martyred.
The Ministry of National Defence announced that the cause of death was multiple organ failure due to severe dehydration. It was reported that an administrative investigation has been launched into the incident.
CHP İzmir MP Murat Bakan, in a statement regarding the case in which 2 soldiers were martyred, called for those responsible to receive the harshest punishment and be dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces.
In his statement, Bakan said: "Hayrullah Halit Karaman and Semih Erdoğan… They were 20 years old, in the prime of their lives, children of this country's poor families. Unable to afford paid military service, they had been entrusted to the Turkish Armed Forces to fulfil their military duty, however brief. They were entrusted to the state, to the nation! We were supposed to watch over them like the apple of our eye! We were supposed to cherish them!"
Bakan made the following remarks:
"But these children were left without water, and they lost their lives to multiple organ failure caused by sodium imbalance! I cannot accept this, and no one should! If this is not negligence, it is callousness and it is deliberate!
Whoever caused the deaths of our children; whoever turned a blind eye to this negligence; from the commanding officer to the medical personnel, everyone responsible for oversight must be prosecuted, must receive the harshest punishment, and must be immediately dismissed from the army. As a member of parliament, I will follow this process closely. I will not let this matter rest until these children are held to account. The burden of Hayrullah's and Semih's deaths rests on all our shoulders. I pray to God for mercy upon our martyrs, and I wish patience to their families. Condolences to our nation."
