CHP submits parliamentary question on 'flashing-light vehicles': Who is the state clearing the way for, and whose lights is it polishing?
CHP's Eylem Ertuğ Ertuğrul has brought the issue of a vehicle with flashing lights, which was involved in an altercation with a motorcycle courier in Beşiktaş, to the parliamentary agenda, questioning to whom it was allocated and for what reason.
CHP Zonguldak Deputy Eylem Ertuğ Ertuğrul has submitted a parliamentary question to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya to answer in writing, following an altercation in Beşiktaş, Istanbul, between a motorcycle courier and the driver of a luxury vehicle equipped with flashing lights, regarding claims that the vehicle was "allocated" by the state.
Stating that footage that went viral on social media and was reflected in the press showed that the vehicle with flashing lights involved in the altercation had previously been used by individuals linked to the Menzil community, Ertuğrul said, "It is unclear for what capacity this individual is using an allocated vehicle. Who is the state clearing the way for, and whose lights is it polishing?"
Claiming that privileges are being granted to certain religious circles instead of public service, Ertuğrul stated, "In this country, the citizen's road is full of potholes, while the sheikh's road is full of flashing lights. It seems that VIP priority is granted not to public services, but to mystical ones."
Ertuğrul brought the following questions to the TBMM agenda to be answered by Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya:
"In whose name or on behalf of which institution is the vehicle in question allocated?
What is the justification for the allocation?
On which authority is the permit for the vehicle's flashing lights based?
Has this vehicle been allocated to the Menzil sheikh before?
Are vehicles from the state inventory being allocated to individuals linked to religious communities or sects?
Deputy Ertuğrul concluded her statement by saying, "We will hold you accountable for this system you have established."
