CHP's Tanrıkulu alleges 'sexual harassment of university student by police': I am calling on the Minister of Justice

CHP Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu shared the testimony of a young person detained in Saraçhane on his social media account.

In their statement, the young person claims that they were sexually harassed and beaten by the police. 

According to Tanrıkulu's post, the following statements regarding the harassment and ill-treatment were included in the young person's testimony:

"I did not resist any public property or the police forces on duty. I was subjected to very harsh intervention while being apprehended. I was pulled by my hair and dragged on the ground. While being taken to be handcuffed, he said 'I won't beat you, okay,' and took me to the back of the ambulance. A male police officer with a beard, mustache, colored eyes, and tall stature (1.85-1.90 m) touched my breasts, saying 'Do you have breasts?' At that moment, I wet myself. My clothes are still soaked in urine. Then a female police officer arrived. She took me from the hands of the policeman who was bullying and harassing me, saying 'Okay, that's enough, stop doing it now.'"

In their statement, the young person says that the police sexually harassed and beat them.

Tanrıkulu used the following expressions in his post:

"I had shared that the young people detained in Saraçhane were subjected to horrific torture.

I have the interrogation report and the police statement in my possession.

A young female university student has clearly revealed through her own declarations how she was harassed and how she was subjected to torture.

She then repeated her statements at the Criminal Court of Peace, and our lawyer colleague recorded all these events in the minutes. What should the Criminal Court of Peace judge do?

They should have filed a criminal complaint immediately, but they ignored it and made other decisions.

I am calling on the Minister of Justice from Parliament;

You say 'there is no torture.' Based on my own observations, the young people detained were subjected to torture in Istanbul during and after their detention, and the law enforcement authorities, the prosecutor's office, and the judicial authorities have all remained silent to cover this up; they have tried to sweep it under the rug.

I am sharing the statement along with the video; the name of our young person is kept confidential by me."
