CHP's Yavuzyılmaz makes claims regarding Esenboğa's 3rd runway: 'This is a disgrace'
CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz claimed in a statement on his social media account that they have determined passenger planes are unable to land on the 3rd runway of Esenboğa Airport, which was inaugurated by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 19, 2026.
CHP's Yavuzyılmaz claimed that due to the massive amounts of debris dumped around it, only one plane has been able to land on the 3rd runway of Esenboğa Airport, which opened on January 19, to date, stating, "This is a disgrace. This situation is causing massive public loss. I am calling out to Minister of Transport Abdülkadir Uraloğlu. Come on, if you have the courage, let's meet at the 3rd runway at Esenboğa and conduct an on-site inspection together."
Yavuzyılmaz claimed that they have determined passenger planes are unable to land on the 3rd runway of Esenboğa Airport, which was inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 19, 2026, stating, "We have reached the record of the only plane that has been able to land to date on the 3rd runway, which is 3750 meters long, 75 meters wide, and was announced as capable of accommodating the world's largest aircraft. That is a light aircraft. The model of the plane: Cessna 172. Purpose of use: Training aircraft. For 4 months, only this 4-seater single-propeller light aircraft has been able to take off and land on the 3rd runway, on May 16 at 14:07."
Deniz Yavuzyılmaz noted the following:
"So, how many passenger planes have been able to take off and land on the 3rd runway since its opening? Zero. Because the airport's 3rd runway has been turned into a debris dumping site by the Ministry of Transport. With great 'brilliance,' the authorities dumped 1 million cubic meters of debris from the airport around the 3rd runway instead of at a municipal dumping site outside the airport, creating massive hills of debris. For this reason, signals cannot be received from the navigation aids on the 3rd runway, approach systems are malfunctioning, and signals sent to aircraft are being cut off. Calibration aircraft keep measuring that the runway is not suitable for air traffic. It points to danger.
"Let's meet at the 3rd runway at Esenboğa and conduct an on-site inspection together"
The result is that due to the massive debris dumped in the 3rd runway area by the AKP, no passenger plane can land or take off on the 3rd runway. This is a disgrace. Under these conditions, the 3rd runway, on which tens of millions of Euros were spent, can only be used for VFR flights with light aircraft. This situation is causing massive public loss. I am calling out to Minister of Transport Abdülkadir Uraloğlu. Come on, if you have the courage, let's meet at the 3rd runway at Esenboğa and conduct an on-site inspection together. Furthermore, if you do not remove this debris immediately and dismiss those responsible, I am announcing a surprise document. Here is that light aircraft, the only plane that can be flown on the 3rd runway."
