CHP's Yavuzyılmaz on Fernas miners: 'We succeeded together'

CHP Deputy Chairman and Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz announced through his social media account that Fernas mining workers have reached an agreement with the company.

Yavuzyılmaz's post is as follows:

"We succeeded together! As a result of the negotiations between the Fernas miners, who have been fighting for their rights for 53 days, and the Fernas company, an agreement was reached as of tonight. I would like to thank everyone who contributed, especially the Independent Mine Workers Union (Bağımsız Maden İş Sendikası)."

WHAT HAPPENED?

Workers at Fernas Mining, owned by AKP Batman MP Ferhat Nasıroğlu in the Soma district of Manisa, had marched from Soma to Ankara to protest against poor work safety, low wages, and layoffs.

The workers, who could not get results from their meetings at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), had started a barefoot protest in Kurtuluş Park.

The miners, who wanted to march to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to present a report, were met with police obstruction and subsequently began a hunger strike.
