CHP's Yücel to Şimşek: 'It's shameful, one should at least blush'

Yücel made a statement regarding the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, which is ongoing at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.

Congratulating the Turkish National Football Team for their 2-1 victory against Austria in the round of 16 of the 2024 European Championship, Yücel wished the national team success ahead of the quarter-final match to be played against the Netherlands.

Yücel argued that justice has not been served in the legal processes concerning the events that took place in Sivas in 1993 and the attack carried out by the terrorist organization ISIS in front of the Ankara Train Station on October 10, 2015.

"FABRICATED DEFENDANT STATEMENTS"

Regarding the case with 22 defendants concerning the murder of former Idealist Hearths (Ülkü Ocakları) Education and Culture Foundation President and Hacettepe University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş, Yücel stated, "Considering the statements given by the defendants in the first hearing of the Sinan Ateş murder case, it is clear that there is a need for an independent and impartial judiciary that will reveal the political leg of this murder. An incomplete indictment and fabricated defendant statements clearly show that the real perpetrators of this murder are being zealously protected by the hitmen and instigators who appeared before the court."

"MINIMUM WAGE MUST BE AT LEAST 25 THOUSAND LIRA"

Stating that basic food items have now become luxury consumption goods, Yücel said, "Housing prices have skyrocketed, rent prices have soared, and bills have inflated. It is precisely at this point that Minister (Mehmet) Şimşek's 'We succeeded' post stands before us as the clearest form of an understanding that is disconnected from the public, ignoring, or even denying the hardships they are experiencing.

Look, this so-called grey list includes countries like Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Colombia, Syria, and Yemen. You are not ashamed when you get Turkey onto this list, but you are proud and say 'We succeeded' when we get off it. It's shameful, one should at least blush."

Stating that annual inflation was 71.60 percent according to the June inflation data announced by TUIK, Yücel said, "The raises you will give based on an inflation rate that you could only manage to bring down to 71 percent by trimming it down will not be a remedy for the pensioners and civil servants.

The raise to be given to pensioners and civil servants based on this rate will again cause them to be crushed by inflation. Not only pensioners and civil servants but also minimum wage earners are victims of inflation. The minimum wage must be increased immediately and made at least 25 thousand lira. The lowest pension should be raised to the level of the minimum wage, and all laborers in this country should receive the welfare share they are entitled to."

REGARDING THE EVENTS IN KAYSERI...

Touching upon the events in Kayseri, Yücel noted the following:

"How many more disasters do we need to experience for the government to address this problem? The refugee problem is now an existential threat to this country. The government is responsible for the grave events that started in Kayseri and spread to our other provinces.

Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek is content with just warning citizens to 'stay calm' by going out onto the balcony of an apartment building and calling for public order. Faced with this helplessness, the government again finds the solution in blaming the opposition. There is only one person responsible for what happened in Kayseri, and that is the AKP government, which ignores the 'Peace at home, peace in the world' understanding of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of this country."

Stating that Turkey urgently needs to develop an immigration policy that prioritizes social peace, Yücel said that it is now essential to make an agreement between Syria and Turkey through diplomatic channels regarding the repatriation of refugees to their countries.
