CHP's Zeybek on 'stock market' speculation: Through the judiciary
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek stated that there was serious speculation in the stock market between 11:00 and 14:00, with some stocks fluctuating by 3 percent and others by up to 6 percent, describing this as "stock market speculation through the judiciary."
Zeybek stated that there was serious speculation in the stock market between 11:00 and 14:00 while the CHP's 22nd Istanbul Extraordinary Provincial Congress was taking place, saying, "Today, we witnessed stock market speculation and a shakeout through the judiciary."
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek was a guest on the live program "Rota," hosted by Kürşat Oğuz on Halk TV. Zeybek made striking statements regarding the CHP's 22nd Istanbul Extraordinary Provincial Congress held yesterday.
Yesterday morning, after the CHP Istanbul Extraordinary Provincial Congress began, the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance sent a letter to the Sarıyer District Election Board requesting the suspension of the ongoing congress, in a manner contrary to the Constitution. The Supreme Election Council convened urgently to discuss the court's request.
Meanwhile, Cevahir Kılıç, the lawyer for Özlem Erkan—who caused the appointment of a trustee to the CHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency—raided the congress with enforcement officers and attempted to obstruct it.
During the hours of 11:00 and 14:00, when all these events were unfolding, there was significant activity in the stock market. While making statements about these events, CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek also made striking remarks regarding the volatility in the stock market.
"SPECULATION THROUGH THE JUDICIARY"
Zeybek used the following expressions:
"Between 11:00 and 14:00, there was serious speculation in the stock market. It went down and then came back up. If stock market speculators had done this, the public prosecutor's offices would have had all of them in custody or under detention today for defrauding and deceiving citizens and causing sudden stock market movements. But when they did this through the judiciary, that is, another shakeout occurred in the stock market today. Many people lost, many people gained. Those who panicked and quickly sold off their stocks due to the feeling that there was political interference via a court decision, perhaps two hours later, saw a 3 percent speculation—a 1 percent loss or 3 percent fluctuation. In some stocks, this went up to 5-6 percent. We saw another stock market speculation and shakeout through the judiciary today."
