CHP's Zeybek visits Ekrem İmamoğlu: Emphasis on urban transformation
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek visited Ekrem İmamoğlu in prison, who was arrested and suspended from his mayoral duties as part of a corruption investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
Speaking to journalists upon leaving the Marmara Closed Penal Institution, Zeybek stated that he had visited not only İmamoğlu but also other individuals who were arrested and suspended from their mayoral duties, as well as managers who held various positions at the İBB.
Zeybek noted that the main topic of the visit was an exchange of views regarding the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara.
Conveying İmamoğlu's "get well soon" wishes to the people of Istanbul, Zeybek said, "He expressed his views on increasing the measures taken and ensuring that the urban transformation project process they have started continues without interruption."
Gökan Zeybek continued as follows:
"What Istanbul needs is to accelerate urban transformation projects with rational, logical, environmentally friendly, and public-oriented approaches. I am making a call once again from here. Please enact legal regulations that will prevent low-income families, retirees who became homeowners 30-40-50 years ago, and low-income families trying to make ends meet with a pension of 14,500 liras from living in risky building stocks."
Emphasizing that they will continue to hold rallies until Ekrem İmamoğlu is released from prison, Zeybek called for İmamoğlu and the other mayors to be tried without arrest.
