CHP's Gürer defends farmers: 'It is mandatory to provide 1% of the national income'
CHP's Ömer Fethi Gürer evaluated the 2025 budget proposal announced by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz during a press conference at the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Stating that sufficient support is not provided to domestic producers, Gürer said, 'It is mandatory to provide the support of 1% of the national income to domestic producers.'
CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer stated at a press conference in Parliament that, according to the regulation adopted in 2006, 1% of the national income should be given to farmers, and that 1% of the national income in the 2025 budget corresponds to 615 billion 400 million Turkish Liras.
Stating that the direct support amount included in the 2025 budget proposal announced by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz is 135 billion liras, Gürer said, "Accordingly, the amount of support withheld from farmers this year is 480 billion 400 million liras. Unfortunately, the amount of support that should be given to agriculture according to the law is not being provided. Last year, 91 billion liras of the 411 billion liras, which was 1% of the national income, was given as direct support. The total amount of support withheld from farmers in two years has reached 800 billion liras," he said.
IT HAS BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO PLANT WITHOUT USING CREDIT
Pointing out that the producers' debt increases every year, Gürer stated that farmers have been "pushed into a situation where they cannot plant without using credit."
Emphasizing that the government does not provide the necessary support for agriculture, Gürer stated that this situation makes an increase in food problems likely. Gürer assessed, "These problems cannot be solved with an importer mindset. It is mandatory to provide the support of 1% of the national income to domestic producers."
