CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın announced that his party's primary election event, scheduled to take place at the Haliç Congress Center on Saturday, March 22, has been banned by a decision of the Istanbul Governor's Office.
CHP's Günaydın stated the following regarding the matter:
"The Governor's Office granted permission for Newroz on Sunday. It should grant it; Newroz is an important celebration. But let us state that the same Governor's Office that granted permission for Newroz has issued a ban on the meeting to be held at the Haliç Congress Center on Saturday. This is contrary to law, contrary to justice, and contrary to conscience."
