Civilians targeted in Silopi, Şırnak: Casualties reported

The PKK carried out an attack on civilian vehicles in the Silopi district of Şırnak. It has been determined that 1 person died and 8 others were injured in the attack.

Civilians targeted in Silopi, Şırnak: Casualties reported

An attack was carried out on civilian vehicles in the Siyahkaya area of the Silopi district in Şırnak.

According to initial reports, 2 people lost their lives in the attack, and more than 10 people were injured.

While it is alleged that the attack was carried out with an IED against a vehicle transporting mine workers, it was reported that the injured were taken to Silopi State Hospital.

 

STATEMENT FROM ALİ YERLİKAYA 

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated that 1 citizen lost their life and 2 citizens were seriously injured in the incident that occurred in Silopi. 

In a post shared on social media, Yerlikaya included the following statements: 

PRESS RELEASE REGARDING THE INCIDENT IN SILOPI DISTRICT

It was reported that there were injuries as a result of an explosion that occurred while a service vehicle belonging to a mining operation operating in the Hkaya region was traveling on the road at approximately 12:40 today.

Security forces dispatched to the scene, in coordination with the Border Unit, took security measures in the area where the explosion occurred and ensured the transport of the injured.

In the explosion that occurred, (1) of our citizens lost their life, and (8) of our citizens were injured, (2) of whom are in critical condition.

Our injured citizens have been taken under treatment at Silopi State Hospital.

As a result of our initial investigations conducted in coordination with our Ministry of National Defense, it is assessed that the attack, which was carried out from northern Iraq, stemmed from a feud related to a coal mine operating in the region.

Necessary security measures have been taken in the area, and a multi-faceted investigation has been launched and is currently ongoing.

I wish God's mercy upon our citizen who lost their life and a speedy recovery to our injured.

 

Prior to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya's statement, some members of parliament had claimed that the attack in Silopi was carried out by the terrorist organization PKK.
