Claim that four mayors will join the AKP
Following the local elections on March 31, 2024, the AKP has incorporated many mayors into its ranks through various means. According to the claim, four more mayors—two from the CHP, one from the New Welfare Party (YRP), and one from the Felicity Party (Saadet Party)—will join the AKP at the AKP group meeting to be held tomorrow.
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will pin the badges on the mayors.
With these additions, the number of mayors who have joined the AKP since the March 31, 2024 local elections will reach 70.
According to the report on TGRT, the mayors, their districts, and their parties are as follows:
Mayor of Serik district in Antalya, Kadir Kumbul (CHP)
Mayor of Bozköy in the Çiftlik district of Niğde, Muammer Çelikbaş (CHP)
Mayor of Çat in the central district of Tokat, Ali Pelit (YRP)
Mayor of Yaygın in the central district of Muş, Selahattin Yalçın (Saadet Party)
Since the March 31 elections, 66 mayors have joined the AKP. The highest number of defections has been from the New Welfare Party.
