Continuing its local election preparations, the Republican People's Party (CHP) has determined 242 mayoral candidates across 15 provinces.

While the CHP's nomination of actor Erdal Beşikçioğlu for the Etimesgut district of Ankara drew attention, it was claimed that this decision caused a crisis within the party.

It was alleged that Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş opposed Beşikçioğlu's candidacy and even said, "If he is the candidate, I will withdraw from my candidacy."

FATİH ALTAYLI REVEALS HIS CONVERSATION WITH YAVAŞ

Following these events, journalist Fatih Altaylı stated that he spoke with Mansur Yavaş and made the following remarks:

"I called and spoke with Mansur Yavaş. First of all, I don't think for a second that he said, 'If Erdal Beşikçioğlu is the candidate, I won't be.' And he didn't say it anyway. Because he is currently a candidate himself. He didn't say anything about withdrawing from the candidacy. When I called him, he was at a funeral. We messaged each other again. This is very normal; when candidacies are discussed in parties, especially those without a very strong leader, arguments inevitably arise. There are multiple reasonable people considered for the same position. Let's say a position becomes vacant here. You say you want Yiğit, I say I want Eren. We might get tense, but then we reach a compromise. We might even experience a short-term resentment. When one of our words is ignored, there might be a slight hurt, but it passes. It's not the end of the world after all.

As for the Erdal Beşikçioğlu issue... It is known that Beşikçioğlu is a CHP member and a social democrat, and he is an important figure. But parties don't pay too much attention to such popular names. Because they also have their own agendas. There are phrases like, 'I have given so many years to the party.' Mr. Mansur may have told some people, 'We are considering you for that position.' That is why Mr. Mansur might have said something like, 'Where did you come up with Erdal Beşikçioğlu?'

But Mr. Mansur would not make this a matter of honor and say, 'It's either him or me.' That is not his style anyway. He is one of the most mature politicians I have ever seen. His behavior is principled and mature. When I asked him about it, he didn't even find it worth answering. Maybe there wasn't even an argument, but I think there was."

DID THE AKP MAKE AN OFFER TO YAVAŞ?

In recent days, journalist Deniz Zeyrek also brought up the claim that the AKP had offered the metropolitan mayoral candidacy to Mansur Yavaş. Altaylı also made the following statements on this matter:

"As for the claim of transferring to the AK Party, it is true, but it is very old. I had written about this before. In 2014, the AK Party made a brilliant transfer offer to Mansur Yavaş. And Mansur Yavaş had rejected it. The words of Deniz Zeyrek that have come to the agenda also refer to that old date. So there is no new offer. Mr. Mansur told me, 'The AK Party made me an offer regarding the metropolitan mayoral candidacy. I did not accept it at that time.'"
