Claims of approval for Imralı-DEM meeting

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, in his group meeting on Tuesday, took his calls to the DEM Party and PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, which have been ongoing since October 1, a step further, stating, "We expect face-to-face contact between Imralı and the DEM group to take place without delay."

Approximately 2 hours after the MHP group meeting, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan took to the parliamentary group podium and responded, "If they are sincere, they will remove the obstacles to this application. Since you are pointing to Öcalan, open his door," and subsequently, along with Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, officially applied to the Ministry of Justice for permission to travel to Imralı.

JUST ONE DAY LATER

According to a report by journalist Altan Sancar, one day after the DEM Party's application, a positive response regarding the visit was received from the Ministry of Justice.

The date of the visit has not yet been clarified.

DENIAL FROM DEM PARTY

In a statement made by the DEM Party, it was stated that no positive or negative response had been received from the Ministry of Justice regarding their meeting requests.

Denying Sancar's claims, the DEM Party said, 'There is no approval for the Imralı meeting yet.'

DENIAL ALSO CAME FROM THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

The Ministry of Justice announced that some comments and reports claiming that permission had been granted for the application made by the DEM Party co-chairs to meet with Abdullah Öcalan are not true.

In a written statement from the Ministry of Justice, it was said, “Some comments are being made that permission has been granted for the application made by the DEM co-chairs to meet with Abdullah Öcalan. These comments and reports are not true.”
