Claims that an elderly man was discharged while dead from a private hospital: Ministry responds to allegations

Allegations that an elderly man receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kuşadası was being discharged while dead have caused a major stir on social media. In the shared video, it was heard being said, “My grandfather is ill, Gözde Hospital discharged him. The man doesn't even have consciousness.”

Following the intervention of emergency medical teams, while it was stated that the patient had passed away, the Ministry of Health made a different statement regarding the incident. The Ministry claimed that the patient was not dead at that moment and stated that the investigation is continuing.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH: "INVESTIGATION IS ONGOING" 

The Ministry announced that the elderly patient was no longer in need of oxygen support as of February 6 and was discharged on February 7. However, it was reported that the patient’s condition deteriorated and he passed away despite a 45-minute intervention. The Ministry announced that it had launched an investigation following the patient's death, but that no statement had been made regarding the inquiry.

The Ministry's statement is as follows:

Following reports in our Aydın province regarding a “deceased citizen being discharged” from a private hospital, it has become necessary to inform our citizens regarding the extraordinary inspection process carried out by our Aydın Provincial Health Directorate:

It has been observed from the records that the patient, who had been receiving treatment in a level 2 intensive care unit at a private hospital since January 30, no longer needed oxygen support on February 6, and was therefore discharged as of 10:35 on February 7,

It is understood from camera recordings that the patient, who was waiting at the emergency room entrance in a wheelchair, deteriorated while under the supervision of emergency room staff and the patient's relatives, and was subsequently taken to the red zone.

It has been determined from hospital records that the patient was intubated and intervened upon for 40-45 minutes, and that the patient's death was recorded at 11:40.

The investigation being conducted by our provincial health directorate regarding the matter is ongoing, and necessary information regarding the process will be provided.
