Clear response from the Palace to the Demirtaş question: Bahçeli had said 'he should return home'
The "Draft Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration," also known in the public eye as the "framework law" and prepared within the scope of the Imralı process—which the government calls the "Terror-Free Turkey" process—was accepted in the TBMM Justice Commission following an 18-hour meeting.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz clarified questions regarding whether the Framework Law would cover Selahattin Demirtaş and terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz answered questions on the agenda regarding the "framework law." Stating clearly that terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan is not included within the scope of the current regulation, Yılmaz noted that the issue regarding terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan is not covered by the regulation, saying, "We need to get results now; we need to save our country from this 50-year-old problem." Yılmaz stated that Turkey possesses the state capacity to resolve this issue.
"REGULATIONS DO NOT CONCERN A SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL"
Answering questions regarding the situation of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş and whether he would fall under the scope of the law, Cevdet Yılmaz underscored that legal regulations cannot be prepared for specific individuals, saying, "A regulation is not something that concerns a specific individual. You make a general regulation, a legal regulation, and whoever that regulation applies to, everyone benefits from it. It is the relevant judicial authorities that will decide this."
BAHÇELİ HAD MADE A CALL
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the People's Alliance partner MHP, had previously stated that Öcalan should be granted the right to hope and that Demirtaş should be released. Bahçeli had used the expressions, "Öcalan should return to hope, Demirtaş should return home."
