Striking new details have emerged regarding the theft of gold and silver worth 147 million TL from the Evidence Office of the Büyükçekmece Courthouse. The investigation into the incident is being expanded.
New information has come to light regarding the scandalous robbery at the Büyükçekmece Courthouse Evidence Office, where 25 kilos of gold and 50 kilos of silver were stolen.
According to a report by Mustafa Şekeroğlu from Habertürk, the incident was first discovered during a routine inspection conducted by the Public Prosecutor on December 1. When the prosecutors had the safe opened, the large-scale theft was revealed.
In the investigation, it was determined that the suspect, Erdal Timurtaş, who fled to England from Sabiha Gökçen Airport with his wife on the morning of November 19, 2025, at 08:22, carried out the robbery on November 13.
HE TRANSPORTED THEM WITH A SHOPPING CART
All security cameras from the courthouse entrance to the upper floors were examined. In the footage, it was seen that Erdal Timurtaş arrived at the building on the morning of November 13 before working hours began.
Findings obtained during the investigation revealed that Timurtaş entered the evidence room using a key around 07:40 in the morning. It was determined that after emptying the safes, he loaded the gold and silver into a shopping cart used for transporting documents in the courthouse.
It was also determined that he wrapped the valuables in black bags and took them out of the building.
HE FLED TO ENGLAND RAPIDLY
Research revealed that the suspect had obtained a visa for England in March. While it is being evaluated that he may have sold the stolen gold and silver abroad, it is also being investigated whether the key used in the incident was a spare key in Timurtaş's possession or an illegally duplicated copy.
