Closed session to be held in the Turkish Parliament today regarding Israel

A closed session will be held in the Turkish Parliament on October 8, 2024, to address issues concerning Israel and the Middle East. During the session, information will be exchanged regarding current developments in the region and Turkey's policies on the matter.

TO BE DISCLOSED AFTER 10 YEARS

Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler will provide briefings during the session. Due to the closed nature of the session, no audience members or journalists will be admitted to the General Assembly hall. The minutes and summaries of the closed session will be eligible for publication after 10 years. Following the briefing, the General Assembly will continue to discuss the items on its agenda in an open session.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Following President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's statement that "Israel also has Turkey in its sights," the CHP had requested that a closed-door meeting be held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

In response to a question on the subject during a television broadcast, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş stated that, in line with a request received from Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler would brief the TBMM General Assembly on Tuesday, October 8. Kurtulmuş had indicated that the discussions could be held in a closed session in accordance with requests from political parties.
