CNN: Israel used US-made munitions in attack on Palestinian camp in Rafah

According to a CNN report, weapons experts evaluated footage shared on social media regarding Israel's attack on the Palestinian camp.

Based on the footage, the experts stated that Israel used US-made GBU-39 small-diameter bombs in the attack and that the serial number of the munitions in the region matched parts manufactured in the US.

Explosive weapons expert Chris Cobb-Smith stated that Israel used a bomb manufactured by the US-based company Boeing, adding, "The use of any munition, even a small-diameter one, in densely populated areas always carries risks."

Trevor Ball, a former US Army member and explosive ordnance disposal team member, noted that the bomb had different characteristics compared to other munitions and that he could easily identify it by its tail.

US Department of Defense (Pentagon) Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh had responded to a question about whether a US-made bomb was used in the Israeli attack by saying, "I don't know what kind of munitions were used, I would suggest you ask the Israelis."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The UN's judicial organ, the International Court of Justice, ruled in its provisional measures decision on May 24 that Israel must immediately halt its attacks on Rafah, not obstruct humanitarian aid, and allow UN officials who will investigate its crimes to enter Gaza.

In the attack that Israel carried out on May 26 on a camp for forcibly displaced Palestinians in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip—where the ICJ had ordered a halt to attacks—45 Palestinians lost their lives.

Eyewitnesses said, "The Israeli army's bombardment caused many tents in the camp to collapse and burn. This camp is not located in the area that the Israeli army had ordered to be evacuated in the city of Rafah, where thousands of displaced Palestinians live."

Witnesses stated that Israeli warplanes attacked the camp with at least 8 rockets.

On the other hand, United Nations (UN) Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Communications Director Juliette Touma had reported that the death toll in the attack Israel carried out on the camp was very high, with at least 200 people killed.
