Collapse at illegal mine: 1 worker dead
A collapse occurred at an illegal mine in the Kilimli district of Zonguldak. It was learned that a worker was trapped under the collapse and could not be saved despite all efforts.
The collapse occurred around 12:00 at an illegal coal mine located on a hillside on Mehmet Özkaya Street in the Bölüm neighborhood of Kilimli district.
Ayhan Yılmaz (54), who was believed to be trapped under a pile of coal, soil, and rock due to a collapse in the ceiling of the illegal mine allegedly owned by T.K., could not be reached.
Upon notification by his friends, police, gendarmerie, medical, AFAD, and Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises (TTK) rescue teams were dispatched to the area. The teams launched a search and rescue operation to reach the miner trapped in the collapse. Kilimli District Governor Hüseyin Ece also arrived at the scene to inspect the operations.
While the work of the miners and AFAD teams continued, the relatives of the trapped miner also began waiting at the mine entrance for good news.
