Commendable gesture from Celal Şengör: Science academy members hold a moment of silence for Atatürk
Prof. Dr. Celal Şengör attended an international meeting in Rome, the capital of Italy. On the 85th anniversary of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's passing, Şengör invited the scientists at the meeting to observe a moment of silence.
Attending the membership induction ceremony of the Accademia dei Lincei, the world's oldest science academy, Celal Şengör began his speech by commemorating Atatürk on November 10. Stating, "If it weren't for him, you would not see me here as a member today," Şengör invited the other scientists to observe a moment of silence for Atatürk.

WHAT IS ACCADEMIA DEI LINCEI?
The Accademia dei Lincei was founded in 1603 by Federico Cesi. Many of the world's most important scientists have been members of this academy. Its former members include names such as Galileo Galilei, Albert Einstein, Max Planck, Werner Heisenberg, and Enrico Fermi.
