Communications Director Duran announces: Topics of the meeting between President Erdoğan and Pope Leo XIV
AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan held a meeting with Vatican Head of State Pope Leo XIV. Communications Director Burhanettin Duran made a statement outlining the topics of the bilateral meeting.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran made the following statement on his social media account:
"In the meeting between our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the Head of State of the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV, who is paying an official visit to our country, Turkey-Vatican relations, issues concerning the common conscience of humanity, especially Palestine, and current regional and global developments were discussed.
This meeting was at the center not only of Turkey-Vatican relations but also of the search for global peace. As our President stated, it is important for the messages delivered from Turkey to reach both the Turkish-Islamic world and the Christian geography in terms of increasing hopes for peace in the world.
Instead of remaining outside of regional and global crises, Turkey demonstrates the will to take active responsibility in the name of peace and justice. Because keeping the spark of peace alive means not only stopping conflicts but also protecting the common conscience of humanity. The support and contribution provided for ending the Russia-Ukraine War is one of the most concrete examples of this.

Our President's mention of the growing Islamophobia in the West once again revealed how hate speech poisons societies and that this danger threatening humanity has reached a dimension that can no longer be ignored. Islamophobia and xenophobia do not gain anything for anyone; on the contrary, they cause loss. This understanding is a dangerous mental breakdown that targets the culture of living together in societies. Today, the louder the voice of peace rings out in a world where respect for values prevails, the faster hope for humanity will sprout.
In his remarks, our President drew attention to the genocide Israel is committing in Gaza and emphasized that we view our solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian people as a humanitarian and moral responsibility."
