Constitutional Court rules access ban on Ekşi Sözlük is a 'violation of rights'

Ekşi Sözlük was first targeted as part of the government's pressure on platforms criticizing negligence regarding the earthquakes, and was subsequently shut down on February 25 on the grounds of 'protecting national security and public order'.

ACCESS BAN HAD BEEN IMPOSED

Following an objection by Ekşi Sözlük, the access ban decision had been lifted by the court. However, it was shut down again before it could be reopened following an 'objection'.

Upon this, the platform's management moved the site to other domain names. The first of these, 'eksisozluk2023.com', was blocked on May 13, 'eksisozluk42.com' on May 15, 'eksisozluk1923.com' on December 14, and 'eksisozluk1999.com' on December 24.

CONSTITUTIONAL COURT RULES 'VIOLATION OF RIGHTS'

Stating that the ban decision was unlawful, the Ekşi Sözlük management had applied to the Constitutional Court.

According to the statement from Ekşi Sözlük, the Constitutional Court ruled that the ban decision violated the right to freedom of expression, which is guaranteed under Article 26 of the Constitution.
