The Constitutional Court (AYM) will address the application regarding the name and emblem of the Yeni Parti during today's General Assembly meeting. The High Court will decide whether the name "Yeni Parti" violates the Law on Political Parties No. 2820 and whether the party's name and emblem should be declared void and removed from the political parties registry.
The process began after the Yenilik Partisi (Innovation Party) filed a complaint with the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor, arguing that the names of the two parties were similar. The Prosecutor's Office had notified the Yeni Parti to change its name on the grounds of "confusion."
THE PARTY WAS GIVEN TIME TO SUBMIT A DEFENSE
The Yeni Parti was granted until September 18 to change its name. Following the failure to make the change, the file was sent to the Constitutional Court by the Office of the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor.
The Constitutional Court discussed the file on its September 29 General Assembly agenda and granted the party one month to submit its defense. The Yeni Parti prepared its defense within this period and submitted it to the High Court.
While officials from the Yeni Parti expressed the view that there is no name similarity, they signaled that if a contrary decision is reached, they could continue their path with a "minor change."
2 NAMES ON THE TABLE
It is reported that in the event of a possible name change, the names "Halkın Yeni Partisi" (The People's New Party) and "Değişim Partisi" (Change Party) are being considered as options. The Constitutional Court's decision today will determine whether the party can continue with its current name.
