Controversial remarks from a Cypriot journalist: Call for the ambassador's withdrawal
Tufan Erhürman has won the presidential election held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Following the election, journalist Serhat İncirli stated that the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey should be recalled.
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) went to the polls to elect its new President. The voting process, which began at 08:00, concluded at 18:00. In the election, where 218 thousand 313 voters participated, 777 ballot boxes were set up for the voting process. Supreme Election Board (YSK) Chairman Bertan Özerdağ announced that the voter turnout was 62.83 percent.
VICTORY FOR TUFAN ERHÜRMAN
The presidential election was concluded in the first round, and Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman became the new President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by receiving 62.80 percent of the valid votes according to unofficial results.
ERSİN TATAR, SUPPORTED BY THE AKP, LOST
Before the election, the People's Alliance had supported the incumbent President Ersin Tatar. However, in the election, Tatar received 35.77 percent of the vote, falling behind Tufan Erhürman.
CALL FOR THE AMBASSADOR'S WITHDRAWAL
Following the election results, Cypriot journalist Serhat İncirli made a significant statement. Regarding the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey's tenure in the TRNC, İncirli stated, "The ambassador should be recalled tomorrow."
