Controversial remarks on Ekrem İmamoğlu from Deniz Baykal's daughter, Aslı Baykal
Aslı Baykal, daughter of Deniz Baykal, commented on the 'terrorism' and 'corruption' investigations that led to the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating, "These are not to the detriment of the country, but to its great benefit and are major steps for clean politics."
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained this morning in a dawn operation as part of 'terrorism' and 'corruption' investigations launched into the municipality.
The cancellation of İmamoğlu's university diploma last night and his detention today have dominated the public agenda.
Aslı Baykal, daughter of the 4th Chairman of the CHP, Deniz Baykal, made a striking post regarding the investigations launched into the İBB and the detention of İmamoğlu.
Claiming that the operation in question was held back to avoid affecting the diploma investigation against İmamoğlu, Aslı Baykal stated, "These investigations are not to the detriment of the country, but to its great benefit and are major steps for clean politics. It is our duty to trust the Turkish judiciary and await the results of the investigations." she said.
At the end of her post, Baykal called on the CHP to hold a convention, saying, "It is the duty of the CHP to continue its path with a cadre truly loyal to Atatürk."
Aslı Baykal's post is as follows:
"Today's detentions may look like successive blows, but they were likely held back to avoid affecting the diploma investigation.
Considering İmamoğlu's influence over the CHP, it is impossible not to wonder where this influence stems from and what it is fed by.
The reason for the very unnecessary, one-person, hasty primary election was to know that these detentions would happen and to pit the citizen against justice.
These investigations are not to the detriment of the country, but to its great benefit and are major steps for clean politics.
It is our duty to trust the Turkish judiciary and await the results of the investigations.
It is the duty of the CHP to set a good calendar, hold a clean convention, and continue its path with a cadre truly loyal to Atatürk."
