Controversy over Erdoğan photo at Yüreğir Municipality: Investigation launched

In the Yüreğir district of Adana, an administrative investigation has been launched after a photograph of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was found inside a bag in the municipality's garden. Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı shared the details of the incident in a statement to journalists at his office.

Stating that the individuals who carried out the act were identified through camera footage, Demirçalı noted that these individuals were employees hired during the term of the previous AKP mayor.

Demirçalı made the following statement regarding the matter:

"They resorted to this because we terminated the employment of the spouse of one of them, as they were a husband and wife working at the same time. This is not a family business; after all, we have a balance of income and expenses."

Reacting to the incident being used for political purposes, Demirçalı said, "I call on the AK Party provincial and district administrators and council members who are trying to gain political capital through our President to be a bit more sensitive. This is not something that can be accepted. After all, he is our President, the President of us all. Disrespect shown to him is disrespect shown to the entire society."

The mayor also touched upon the details of the investigation, providing the following information: "One of these individuals is still working with us and continues their duties. We have launched the investigation now, and whatever is necessary will be done. We will file a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office today. I learned about the issue from the newspaper. Our colleagues immediately started an investigation. We will do whatever is necessary, and we will pursue this to the end."

'IT MAY HAVE BEEN BROUGHT FROM OUTSIDE'

Speaking about the source of the photograph of Erdoğan, Demirçalı said, "I do not know whether the photograph was brought from outside or obtained from within the municipality. Since those who did this are municipal employees, they could have taken it from inside the municipality or brought it from outside."
