Corruption investigation at Yunus Emre Institute: Former president caught at the airport!

As part of an investigation conducted in Ankara, the former president of the Yunus Emre Institute, Şeref Ateş, was detained at Esenboğa Airport in accordance with an arrest warrant issued against him. The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that Ateş was apprehended within the framework of an investigation into charges of "Abuse of Trust Due to Service" and "Laundering of Assets Derived from Crime." The suspect's proceedings are being carried out by the Financial Crimes Investigation Bureau of the Ankara Provincial Security Directorate.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In the investigation launched following allegations of 400 million TL in corruption at the Yunus Emre Institute, two separate indictments had been prepared against 23 people, including Şeref Ateş's son, Enes Ateş. The suspects were charged with "laundering of assets derived from crime" and "abuse of trust due to service." The file of the former president, Ateş, who was a fugitive, had been kept separate.

The prosecutor's office had stated that fake invoices were issued for goods and services that were not received and that public loss was created through shell companies. As the investigation continues meticulously, developments will be shared with the public.
