'Coup against the government' was alleged: Investigation into police chiefs in the ABK case completed
An indictment has been prepared for the case opened following claims of a 'conspiracy against the government' by fugitive witness Serdar Sertçelik in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation.
The indictment prepared against 6 police officers, including 3 police chiefs, and 5 civilians who helped Sertçelik escape in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan investigation has been accepted, and a case has been opened at the Ankara 13th Criminal Court of First Instance.
Sertçelik will be tried alongside the police chiefs accused of plotting a "conspiracy against the government," and he faces up to 24 years in prison.
The indictment charges the police chiefs and officers with misconduct and neglect of duty, as well as harboring a witness, while the civilians are charged with harboring a witness.
According to NTV's report, Sertçelik and the 6 police officers will be tried for "misconduct," "neglect of duty," and "harboring a witness."
Fugitive Serdar Sertçelik, the former secret witness in the Ayhan Bora Kaplan case, had claimed that the police officers conducting the investigation forced him to testify against the government; the police officers were subsequently suspended and arrested.
Sertçelik was caught in Hungary with a fake Georgian passport, and the process for his extradition has been initiated.
