Court cancels that Istanbul Governor's Office ban!

The ban on alcohol consumption in public areas, introduced by the Istanbul Governor's Office in August 2023, which sparked controversy, has been overturned by the judiciary. At the time, the announcement stated that individuals who did not comply with the ban would be subject to an administrative fine of 617 liras.

Lawyer Ümit Erdem, who took action to have this decision canceled, had announced that he filed a lawsuit with the Istanbul 7th Administrative Court.

CANCELLATION DECISION FROM THE COURT

Sharing the outcome of the process, Lawyer Erdem announced that the Istanbul Governor's Office's ban decision had been canceled with the following words:

"In the lawsuit I filed in 2023 against the circular of the Istanbul Governor's Office that prevented the consumption of alcohol in places such as parks, beaches, and coastal areas, the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court 10th Administrative Litigation Chamber decided to CANCEL the action with the decision notified yesterday."
