Court clerk who accessed UYAP to close files: I was in financial distress

The hearing at the Ankara 28th High Criminal Court was attended by the detained defendant, court clerk Ahmet Yılmaz, as well as some defendants who are being tried without detention and the lawyers for the parties.

After the presiding judge read the new documents submitted to the case file, the court proceeded to hear the witnesses. Witness E.A. stated that he had known the defendant Ahmet Yılmaz for about 20 years and said, "We did business together for a period. Later, I learned that he was working as a court clerk at the courthouse."

Explaining that he was experiencing economic difficulties in his defense, Ahmet Yılmaz said, "I was going through a difficult period. I tried to pay off my debts and support my family with the money I received."

The other defendants who are being tried without detention, when given the floor, also claimed that they did not know Ahmet Yılmaz, that they did not pay anyone to have their files closed, and that they had not made such a request. Following the testimonies, the hearing was adjourned to continue tomorrow.
