Crime scene investigation completed for the tragic accident on the Northern Marmara Motorway

The crime scene investigation conducted by public prosecutors assigned by the Sakarya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Gendarmerie Crime Scene Investigation teams following the accident on the Northern Marmara Motorway has concluded.

According to the information obtained, the light commercial vehicle with license plate 48 VJ 236, driven by Hüseyin Kamil Yıldız (31), who lost his life in the accident, struck the truck with license plate 01 ZT 460, driven by O.K., which was traveling in the second lane from Adana to Bulgaria, after the driver lost steering control.

Following this, the pickup truck with license plate 34 GOR 839, carrying furniture materials and driven by Sedat Değirmenci—who also lost his life in the accident—stopped after striking a person who had exited the light commercial vehicle, as well as Abidin Talaşlı (44), a friend of O.K. who had parked his truck with license plate 01 DZY 16 on the side of the road to assist after witnessing the accident, in the left lane.

A passenger bus belonging to Metro Turizm with license plate 50 ACV 195, traveling from Kayseri to Istanbul, then struck 5 pedestrians, including Değirmenci and 2 others who had exited the pickup truck, as well as a man and a woman who had exited the light commercial vehicle.

The driver of the bus with license plate 34 BC 2318, belonging to the Esenyurt Municipality and carrying passengers returning from a funeral ceremony in Giresun to Istanbul, stopped in the third lane behind the light commercial vehicle after seeing the accidents ahead.

As a result of a passenger bus belonging to Kamil Koç, traveling from Ankara to Istanbul, colliding with the Esenyurt Municipality bus, 3 people on the buses lost their lives at the scene.

Based on the teams' investigations at the scene, it was assessed that the driver of the light commercial vehicle was at fault for rear-ending the truck, the drivers of the Metro Turizm bus and the furniture-carrying pickup truck were at fault for exceeding the speed limit, and the driver of the Kamil Koç bus was at fault for rear-ending the vehicle in front.

It was determined that the car with license plate 34 GEF 656, which was involved in the accident, remained in the 4th lane without causing any injuries.

The examination of DNA samples taken from the vehicles involved in the accident is ongoing.
