Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that Assad Ali Gomaa Khodır, a syndicate leader wanted with a Red Notice on charges of human smuggling, has been captured in Istanbul.
In a statement made via social media, Yerlikaya noted that Khodır was being sought under a Red Notice issued by Italy and was taken into custody during an operation conducted in Istanbul.
The operation was carried out through the joint efforts of the General Directorate of Security's Interpol-Europol Department, the Intelligence Department, and the Department of Anti-Migrant Smuggling and Border Gates. It was reported that Khodır's location in Fatih, Istanbul, was identified and he was captured in a raid organized by the Istanbul Provincial Police Department teams.
Yerlikaya also shared footage of the moments the syndicate leader, who is accused of organizing illegal migration activities toward Italy, was taken into custody.
