Criminal complaint filed against Melih Gökçek and his family

The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) announced that a criminal complaint has been filed against former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek, his family, and the executives of Beyaz TV Ankara and Osmanlı Spor.
In the statement made by the ABB, it was noted that the criminal complaint was filed on August 7, 2026.
The statement included the following remarks:
"Ankara Metropolitan Municipality lawyer Nadi Türkaslan has filed a criminal complaint with the Organized Crime Investigation Bureau on 07.08.2026, alleging a criminal organization, against former Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gökçek, his family, the executives of Beyaz TV Ankara and Osmanlı Spor, and individuals alleged to have rigged tenders."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Journalist Murat Ağırel recently published a report bringing to light allegations that Melih Gökçek and his family had transferred unregistered funds to companies abroad.
In the report in question, it was claimed that the Gökçek family had made agreements for a building in Düsseldorf and a shopping center in Velbert.
Following the emergence of these allegations, an investigation was launched into Melih Gökçek by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Making a statement after the investigation became public, Gökçek had said, "With God's permission, I have no account I cannot answer for. I will provide the necessary information to the prosecutor's office. I am submitting myself to Turkish justice."
