Criminal complaint from İzzet Özgenç against media members
Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, former legal advisor to AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan, has filed a criminal complaint with the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), stating that certain media programs have violated the confidentiality of investigations.
Prof. Dr. İzzet Özgenç, as the former legal advisor to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, reacted to the media coverage of allegations made by individuals benefiting from effective remorse in operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Özgenç stated that these allegations were published in violation of the confidentiality of the investigation and that a smear campaign was being conducted against him.
Özgenç announced on the social media platform X that he had filed a criminal complaint with the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK).
In his petition, he stated that the statements of individuals who testified as "suspects" or "witnesses" within the scope of the investigation were leaked to certain media outlets before their accuracy had been verified.
He emphasized that this situation led to the creation of an impression that the content was accurate by certain individuals.
In his criminal complaint, Özgenç also submitted to the HSK videos of programs featuring journalists Nagehan Alçı, Cem Küçük, Şamil Tayyar, and Fatih Atik.
He noted that these videos could be accessed online.
Özgenç had previously opposed the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office's move to ban the use of the voice and image of the incumbent Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in public transportation.
Stating that İmamoğlu still holds the title of Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Özgenç had argued that such bans were unlawful.
