Crisis erupts between two ministers over Narin Güran murder case

The murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, whose lifeless body was found 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır, has yet to be solved. As new details emerge in the investigation every day, it is alleged that the two ministers have come into conflict following the leaking of testimonies.

T24 columnist Tolga Şardan stated in his article today: "Let me provide one more piece of information regarding the murder of Narin Güran and conclude the article. From the very first moment of the investigation, the fact that the testimonies taken by the prosecutor's office from the suspects were 'somehow' reflected in the public eye caused an unspoken crisis between the two ministries. It is even possible to consider this crisis at the level of the ministers themselves, beyond the ministry bureaucracy. Specifically, the leaking of testimonies and texts from the first day, regardless of whether the media was pro-government or opposition, pitted the Ministry of Interior against the Ministry of Justice."

Şardan wrote that there has been a 'coldness' between Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya and Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç for some time.

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, and Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya traveled to the city and received information from officials, primarily Governor Murat Zorluoğlu, as well as the prosecutor's office and judicial law enforcement authorities. It was noted that on the day of the press statement, Minister of Interior Yerlikaya remained distant from the other ministers. Tunç and Göktaş worked on the text to be presented to the press.

ALLEGATION THAT YERLIKAYA AND TUNÇ ARE AT ODDS

According to the allegation, Yerlikaya and Tunç clashed at the Governor's Office regarding the reflection of the testimonies in the public eye. Yerlikaya brought up that the testimonies were delivered to the media by the prosecutor's office and from Ankara, while Tunç raised the issue that they were leaked from the gendarmerie. It is claimed that following the testimony crisis in the Narin investigation, the two ministries have now come into conflict again after the 27-year-old police officer Şeyda Yılmaz was martyred by the habitual offender Yunus Emre Geçti.

Şardan noted the following in his article:

"The incident caused outrage across the country. The two ministries were once again at odds. While Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya made a high-profile public statement, the Ministry of Justice preferred to remain silent, aside from messages of condolence. However, afterwards, unexpected information was reflected in the public eye. Moreover, this information left both the police force and Minister Yerlikaya in a difficult position.

The information that the murder suspect Geçti, who was under judicial control and required to report to the police station to sign in, had not been signing in recently and that this situation had not been reported to the prosecutor's office by the police, fell onto the agenda.

This information, which the Ministry of Interior did not disclose, was somehow delivered to television channels close to the government and certain newspapers.
