Critical interim ruling announced in Tanju Özcan case: Two people released

The trial of 19 defendants in Bolu, including Tanju Özcan, who was suspended from his post as Mayor, continued.

The first hearing of the case, in which the defendants are charged with "extortion by coercion," "attempted extortion," "bribery," "qualified fraud," and "violation of Law No. 5072 on Foundations and Associations," and in which Özcan faces up to 263 years in prison, has concluded. The court panel announced its interim ruling following the 5-day first hearing.

2 people released

The court panel decided to release detained defendants Cihan Tutal, a CHP Municipal Council Member, and Naim Ayhan, the Bolu Municipality Financial Services Manager, under judicial control measures. Additionally, the house arrest measure for Bolu Deputy Mayor Leyla Beykoz was lifted.

Detention continued for 4 defendants

The court panel ruled that the detention of suspended Mayor Tanju Özcan, Deputy Mayor Süleyman Can, BOLSEV Board Member Ali Sarıyıldız, and Mustafa Altındal, President of the Bolu Greengrocers and Vendors Chamber and the Bolu Köroğlu Credit and Bail Cooperative, shall continue. The hearing was adjourned to September 7.
