Stating that Turkey is ready to fulfill its duty in this regard, Fidan also discussed the latest situation in Gaza with his counterpart during the call.

LATEST SITUATION IN THE RED SEA

As a result of attacks by Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthi militants on commercial ships in the Red Sea, the world's leading shipping companies are avoiding the use of the Suez Canal, which is the shortest sea route connecting Asia to Europe and accounts for approximately 12 percent of global maritime traffic. The world's largest shipping companies have been forced to divert their routes to South Africa.

Using the Cape of Good Hope route instead of the Red Sea costs an additional 10 days and 1 million dollars in extra fuel for a voyage from Asia to Northern Europe.

While the US and the UK have been striking Houthi targets in Yemen, American and British warplanes carried out airstrikes on several locations in the Yemeni cities of Sanaa, Hodeidah, and Taiz late last night.
