Critical meeting in Ankara: Countdown begins for Eurofighter procurement!
Turkey is nearing the end of the process for procuring Eurofighter fighter jets. The final signatures for the agreement are expected to be signed during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's contacts in Ankara next week. Under the agreement, Turkey will acquire both aircraft from new production lines and Eurofighters currently in the inventories of Qatar and Oman.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will meet with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his visit to Ankara early next week. The meeting will address the future of bilateral relations, as well as the Russia-Ukraine war, the reconstruction of Gaza, and regional developments. One of the most critical topics of the meeting will be the procurement of Eurofighter fighter jets.
Officials state that the agreement regarding the long-standing purchase of 40 Eurofighters could be signed following the meeting. According to NTV's report, the majority of the aircraft covered by the procurement consist of new-generation Eurofighters currently in production for the Royal Air Force, and these aircraft will be delivered to Turkey according to the production schedule.
FIRST DELIVERIES VIA QATAR
Under the agreement, Eurofighter aircraft belonging to the air forces of Qatar and Oman will also join Turkey's inventory. It is stated that the first aircraft to enter the inventory will be provided from Qatar's stock.
The aircraft belonging to Oman are planned to be delivered to Turkey after the completion of modernization work to be carried out by the manufacturer. Once the agreement is formalized, training and adaptation processes for Turkish pilots will begin.
TRAINING AND FLEET ENTRY INTO SERVICE
Following the conclusion of training and adaptation processes, the goal is to bring the first fleet of Eurofighters to an operational level.
TECHNICAL STRUCTURE OF THE EUROFIGHTER
The Eurofighter is produced by a consortium consisting of the British BAE Systems, the French Airbus, and the Italian Leonardo. The aircraft is built on a robust airframe reinforced with materials that increase radar stealth; it offers high combat capability with advanced sensor, control, and weapon integration. The Eurofighter Typhoon, which uses advanced composite materials in its production, stands out with its low radar cross-section and durable structure.
Featuring a twin-engine, delta-wing configuration, the Eurofighter performs at a high level in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions. In addition to the air-to-air missiles in the Turkish Armed Forces' inventory, its air defense capacity can also be strengthened with Meteor missiles, which have a range of over 200 kilometers.
