Criticism from İsmail Saymaz regarding Eğitim-Bir-Sen's condolence message: 'Who are you trying to exonerate?'
Journalist İsmail Saymaz criticized the condolence message shared by Eğitim-Bir-Sen for school principal İbrahim Oktugan, who was killed by his student.
At a high school in Eyüpsultan, a student of Iraqi origin named Y.K. opened fire on school principal İbrahim Oktugan (74), whom he held responsible for his expulsion from the school.
Oktugan, who was critically wounded in the armed attack in his office, lost his life in the hospital where he was taken, despite all interventions.
Y.K., who fled after the incident, was caught by police teams and arrested shortly thereafter.
While teachers and unions expressed their reactions to this murder, the condolence message published by Eğitim-Bir-Sen drew the reaction of journalist İsmail Saymaz.
Stating that the expressions used in the condolence message were written as if they were acting as the defense attorney for the student who carried out the attack, Saymaz expressed his reaction with the following words:

"The pro-government Eğitim-Bir-Sen has practically taken on the role of defense attorney for the student who shot his principal.
As if he had been expelled from school and shot him out of the anger he felt…
Who are you trying to exonerate?
Are you trying to excuse him because the student who did the shooting is Iraqi?"

WHAT DID EĞİTİM-BİR-SEN SAY IN ITS CONDOLENCE MESSAGE?
Sharing a condolence message after the murder of school principal İbrahim Oktugan, Eğitim-Bir-Sen used the following expressions:
"Our Grief is Great
Our school principal İbrahim Oktugan, who was critically wounded by a student who was expelled from a private high school in Istanbul with a gun out of the anger he felt for being expelled, has lost his life in the hospital where he was receiving treatment.
We wish God's mercy upon our principal İbrahim Oktugan, patience for his relatives, and offer our condolences to our Istanbul education community."
