Criticized by her party, she had said 'I got permission from Bahçeli': Erdem resigns from MHP

Arzu Erdem, who was alleged to have had problems with her party recently, announced that she has resigned from her position as an MHP high council delegate and from her MHP party membership.

MHP's İsmet Büyükataman emphasized that the work carried out by Arzu Erdem using the title of former MHP deputy had nothing to do with the party and was personal work. Büyükataman said, "This work has no connection with our party."

Following İsmet Büyükataman's statement, Arzu Erdem stated that all the meetings she held were with the knowledge of Chairman Devlet Bahçeli.

ANNOUNCED HER RESIGNATION

Following this crisis, the news of her resignation arrived. Arzu Erdem announced it on her social media account Twitter (X). Erdem, who said, "I am resigning from my position as a Nationalist Movement Party high council delegate and my MHP party membership of my own free will, without any pressure. Those who know me know very well that I will not bow to any pressure," stated the following:

"Dear Turkish Nation,

Within the scope of my nearly 20 years of active political work in the Nationalist Movement Party, I was nominated for 6 terms in the parliamentary elections. In 3 of these terms, I had the honor of representing the Dear Turkish Nation in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Indeed, I was nominated as the 4th candidate from the 3rd district of Istanbul in the 2023 parliamentary elections; unfortunately, our votes were not enough for me to be elected this term.

However, not being a Member of Parliament this term did not prevent me from working for the Great Turkish Nation, as I continued my work with all my might in the Presidential and Local Government elections, where I was actively assigned by my Party during the election process.

Of course, there are different ways to serve the Great Turkish Nation other than parliamentary and party work.

One of these ways is the foundation activities that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk specifically drew attention to and encouraged in parliamentary sessions starting from 1922.

In this context, I carried out the establishment work of the National Aid and Education Foundation (UYEV). Subsequently, I presented information about the foundation's establishment, purpose, and future work to our esteemed elder, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli. Our goal in this foundation work is to carry the legacy of the past into the future with a supra-political understanding, together with all segments of the Turkish Nation. Unfortunately, we witnessed that while we had just started work across the country in line with this goal, these efforts of mine disturbed a segment within the party.

So much so that, completely contrary to what we were taught, and even contrary to general political ethics and traditions, and in a way devoid of courtesy, they made a statement on social media on behalf of my Party to discredit me and the work I do for the Turkish Nation.

In fact, quite strangely, it was stated in this statement that it was not even desired for my "Former Deputy" title to be used in the work and visits I carried out.

However, it is a fact that I was a Nationalist Movement Party Deputy for the 25th, 26th, and 27th terms. I would like to state that I attained this title with the appreciation of our Chairman and the favor of our voters, and that I can and will use this title as I wish, like everyone else in my situation.

I also deeply condemn the fact that my aforementioned work, which I in no way associated with the party within the framework of my sincere intentions, was made a tool for social media platforms.

As a result, in Erzurum, where I penned this text, just as the Great Leader Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms resigned from the army to continue the National Struggle and returned to the bosom of the nation, I am resigning from my position as a Nationalist Movement Party high council delegate and my MHP party membership of my own free will, without any pressure.

Those who know me know very well that I will not bow to any pressure.

From now on, I will continue to serve my Homeland, my Nation, my State, and my Flag on every platform.

On this occasion, I would like to thank, first and foremost, the esteemed Chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party, our precious elder Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, who has contributed to me; my fellow party members with whom I have fought shoulder to shoulder for 20 years, with whom I have acted together in good and bad times, and who have served and are serving at every level of the party; the Chairman of our Ülkü Ocakları and the members of Ülkü Ocakları who have served and are serving to this day; and everyone from all walks of society who has shown favor to me regardless of their political views.

As the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk said;

“I am a Turkish Nationalist, I was born this way and I will die this way…”

THE EFFORT IS OURS, THE VICTORY IS FROM ALLAH..

I respectfully submit this to the public.

Arzu Erdem

25th, 26th, and 27th Term MHP Deputy"
