CrowdStrike CEO apologizes

In a post on his X social media account, Kurtz stated that the CrowdStrike team continues to work in close cooperation with affected customers and business partners to ensure that all systems are restored.

Noting that CrowdStrike has sent a letter to its customers and partners, Kurtz included the following statement in the letter: "I want to sincerely apologize directly to all of you for today's outage. All of us at CrowdStrike understand the gravity and impact of the situation. We quickly identified the issue and deployed a fix, focusing diligently on our highest priority: restoring customer systems."

NOT A SECURITY OR CYBERATTACK

Stating that the outage was caused by an issue in a Falcon content update for Windows hosts, Kurtz reiterated that Mac and Linux computers were not affected and that this was not a security incident or a cyberattack.

In his letter, Kurtz stated that they are working to ensure all systems are restored for the security of their customers and to enable them to provide their services, adding the following:

"We know that adversaries and bad actors will try to exploit events like this. I encourage everyone to ensure they are communicating with official CrowdStrike representatives. Our blog and technical support will continue to be the official channels for the latest updates.

Nothing is more important to me than the trust and confidence our customers and partners have placed in CrowdStrike. As we resolve this incident, I pledge to provide full transparency on how this occurred and the steps we are taking to prevent anything like this from happening again."

STATEMENT FROM MICROSOFT

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also shared a post on his X account, stating: "Yesterday, CrowdStrike released an update that began impacting internet technology systems globally.

We are aware of this issue and are working closely with CrowdStrike and across the industry to provide customers with technical guidance and support to help them safely bring their systems back online."

The global software issue, caused by a disconnect between the update from CrowdStrike—which provides cybersecurity services to Microsoft—and the Microsoft operating system, negatively impacted daily life in many parts of the world today.
