Cryptocurrency trend: How much are hackers stealing?

According to a report shared by Immunefi, the crypto sector suffered a loss of 1.8 billion dollars throughout last year as a result of various scams and cyberattacks.

CYBERATTACKS INCREASED BY 90 PERCENT

Although this figure represents half of the 3.9 billion dollars recorded in 2022, the number of attacks increased by 90 percent, rising from 168 to 319. According to the report, malicious actors were more active in the third quarter of the year, while the largest attacks on a monthly basis occurred in November.

HOW MUCH DID HACKERS STEAL?

Hackers embezzled 343 million dollars worth of cryptocurrency from platforms last month. According to Immunefi's report, 1.6 billion dollars of these attacks took place in DeFi, while centralized crypto platforms lost 103 million dollars.

The networks most preferred by malicious individuals or groups stealing cryptocurrency from various platforms were BNB Chain and Ethereum. According to the report, 131 different attacks occurred on the BNB Chain, while this figure was recorded as 91 on Ethereum. These two blockchains were followed by Polygon and Avalanche, respectively.

The North Korea-based Lazarus Group went down in history as the largest hacker group of the year with a total of 308.6 million dollars in attacks. Immunefi stated that Lazarus was behind the attacks on platforms such as Atomic Wallet, Stake, and CoinEx by Asia-based hackers.
