Curious petitions to the Turkish Parliament: From requests for the right to revenge to demands for intermittent fasting

The Turkish Parliament's Petition Commission has received 19 thousand 531 applications since the beginning of the 28th Legislative Term. These applications indicate a 63 percent increase compared to the previous term. While the majority of the applications focused on working life and retirement issues, justice services and environmental management were also among the other prominent topics.

INTENSE APPLICATIONS FROM ISTANBUL, ANKARA, AND IZMIR

Among the provinces with the highest number of applications are Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. 4 thousand 272 applications were made from Istanbul, 2 thousand 211 from Ankara, and 1134 from Izmir. Metropolitan cities such as Bursa, Antalya, and Kocaeli were also among the other provinces with a high volume of applications.

The Petition Commission has made decisions on 9 thousand 406 petitions to date. While applications that do not comply with legislation or are repetitive are removed from processing, the review of some petitions continues.

CURIOUS REQUESTS DRAW ATTENTION

Among the petitions received by the commission were also curious requests. For example, one citizen suggested that public personnel who use tobacco products should work longer hours, while another requested that noisy neighbors be evicted by court order. Additionally, it was requested that the intermittent fasting diet program be popularized nationwide.

Other notable requests include the closure of dolphin parks, the readjustment of salaries for those who increase their education level after retirement, the determination of traffic fines based on vehicle value, and the celebration of November 19 as "International Men's Day." Furthermore, proposals such as women performing public service instead of mandatory military service, removing criminals from their family trees, and banning picnics to prevent forest fires were also voiced.

One citizen requested that access to alcoholic beverages be blocked. All these requests are on the agenda of the Turkish Parliament's Petition Commission.
