Currency exchange owner arrested in İzmir's 'Seçil Erzan' case speaks out: They conducted the trade at the branch

Halktv columnist İsmail Saymaz stated that the second Seçil Erzan case has erupted at Denizbank once again, writing: "The suspect is Bornova Branch Manager Hatice Özalp. Özalp defrauded her customers by saying, 'I am investing in gold.' She sent the money to Serkan Çelik, who operates a jewelry and currency exchange business. She sent Dollars and Euros and received TL, and sent TL and received gold. When the scheme she set up collapsed, Erzan attempted suicide but failed to die. The 'Seçil of Karşıyaka' followed the same path. She is currently receiving treatment at the İzmir City Hospital Psychiatry Department."

HE BROUGHT THE TL TO THE BRANCH BY HAND

Noting that the only person arrested in the case is currency exchange owner Serkan Çelik, Saymaz explained what happened as follows: "Çelik says he has known Özalp for 25 years. He explains that in exchange for the money sent by G.K., they delivered 500 grams of gold to Özalp at the Karşıyaka Bazaar, and that they exchanged Ö.İ.'s 80 thousand Euros and brought the TL to the branch by hand."

Çelik stated that the deliveries were made by a driver or security guards, saying, "It took place sometimes at the bank and sometimes outside the bank." Stating that an invoice was issued for every transaction, Çelik said: "Although giving gold, foreign currency, etc., by hand does not appear correct in form, this stems from my trust in her and my feeling that it did not contain a situation that constitutes a crime."

Çelik said, "I did not defraud anyone and I did not act in collusion with Özalp. Özalp has damaged my commercial reputation."
