Cyber defense call from Yankı Bağcıoğlu

CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for National Defense Policies Yankı Bağcıoğlu stated that following the recent publication of Turkey's 2024-2028 National Cyber Security Strategy and Action Plan, cyber warfare, electronic warfare, assassination, and sabotage activities have become fundamental types of warfare in today's operational environment.

Bağcıoğlu called for a comprehensive cyber defense exercise to be held across Turkey, expressing that dependence on digital technologies is increasing and poses a threat to national security. 

Bağcıoğlu said, "Pagers and handheld radios have effectively turned into weapons. Threats are growing, and our country's security is at risk. Recent developments in the region have made it a necessity to take urgent measures."

Bağcıoğlu emphasized that the exercise should be conducted as soon as possible with the participation of all state institutions and critical private sector actors. 

He stated that the exercise should be carried out in a way that covers all possible scenarios and, if necessary, in different phases. Furthermore, he expressed that the exercise should not be done "just for the sake of it," but in a serious and comprehensive manner.

Drawing attention to the earthquake drill conducted before the February 6 earthquakes, which was reported as successful, Bağcıoğlu said, "What happened after the earthquake is still in our memories. We must not fall into the same mistakes again, and the necessary preparations must be made with seriousness."
