New statement from ÇYDD regarding Sedat Peker claims: 'The values our association represents...'

Journalist İzzet Çapa announced in a post on his social media account that Sedat Peker had called him and ordered 5,000 copies of his second book, 'Read This Book Backwards,' the proceeds of which he had donated to the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) for the education of female students. Appreciating this support from Peker, Çapa said, "He is a father of a daughter after all, he understands the situation of children. I, too, thank him wholeheartedly on behalf of our students, ÇYDD, and my humble self."

Following this order, a donation of approximately 1.5 million TL was expected to be made to ÇYDD.

In the first statement made by the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) on the subject, it was stated: "As a non-governmental organization with high public prestige due to its transparency and reliability, we state that we do not approve of this post and news made without the knowledge and processes of our institution, and that we do not have a donation agreement with the mentioned author; therefore, no such donation has been received into our association's account."

NEW STATEMENT FROM ÇYDD

A new statement was issued by ÇYDD in the evening hours. The statement said, "Upon our clear expression to the publishing house that the values represented by our association would not align with the person who allegedly purchased the books in bulk and that we could not accept this donation, İzzet Çapa removed his post; however, this post continued to be reported on social media as if this donation had been made to our association and our association had received it, and it was also seen to be reported in the written press."

The full statement is as follows:

"The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living has aimed to reach the goal of a contemporary person and society through contemporary education, remaining committed to Atatürk's principles and revolutions for 36 years since its establishment.

As ÇYDD, while accepting donation proposals made to our association, we observe compliance with universal legal principles, human rights, and the fundamental values of our association. In this direction, the past activities and public impact of donors are also taken into consideration.

In cases where it is requested to donate book royalty income to our association, the book is reviewed by our publishing board, and if deemed appropriate, a contract is made with the donor on this matter.

In this direction, it was verbally reported to us by the publisher of the book that businessman and author İzzet Çapa wanted to donate the royalty income of his book to our association. In line with the verbal request of Mr. Çapa and the publishing house he is affiliated with, an appointment was given to the publisher's representative and İzzet Çapa for March 10, Monday, at 14:00 to meet with our Chairperson, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel.

While the process was progressing positively, on March 8, International Working Women's Day, it was stated by Mr. Çapa via social media that there were bulk purchases of the book and that the income obtained by naming the person who made the purchase would be donated to our association. Upon our clear expression to the publishing house that the values represented by our association would not align with the person who allegedly purchased the books in bulk and that we could not accept this donation, İzzet Çapa removed his post; however, this post continued to be reported on social media as if this donation had been made to our association and our association had received it, and it was also seen to be reported in the written press. As a result of the developments, the appointment given by our association was also mutually cancelled through discussion. While all these developments were taking place, there is no donation agreement or donation received.

During this process, it was reported by our association to the publishing house that a donation agreement could not be made with the author, and a short statement was made on this subject. We wanted to share the details of the matter transparently with the public to address the questions of the public."
